MBFWSL Designer Spotlight
Designer Amesh Wijesekera is a graduate of the Academy of Design (AOD) in Sri Lanka. He was discovered at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Sri Lanka in Colombo, and the Mercedes-Benz in-house junior development scheme IDEP (International Designer Exchange Program) enabled Amesh to present his new collection to the public at MBFW Berlin. Traditional craftsmanship, contemporary design and “made in Sri Lanka” infused with his eclectic palette of color and texture are all combined by Amesh Wijesekera to form a collection that blends the physical and emotional. A new voice and celebration of Sri Lankan heritage and design innovation.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Sri Lanka attracts an audience representing a wide network of fashion industry professionals who are specifically interested in the South Asia apparel market.
International designers, manufacturers, buyers, and representatives from apparel and textile associations, bloggers, PR agencies, fashion influencers, researchers and academics from Europe, North America and Asia will be in attendance.
Three runways that capture distinctly different themes relevant to the evolution of South Asian fashion will be held during MBFWSL.
The Emerging Fashion Runway
This runway features young graduate talent, new brands, and fresh fashion entrepreneurs. This is probably the most eclectic out of the three and provides a fantastic opportunity for upcoming designers and brands to make their name known in influential fashion circles, attracting new business and partnerships for their critical first three years in the industry.
The Spring/Summer Runway
The Spring/Summer 2020 runway show is a unique representation of how Sri Lanka Apparel is progressing as a future-forward industry that combines manufacturing prowess with material innovation, design, and sustainability.
The Travel Runway
"Travel Stories" is the third and final runway that embraces one of the most powerful fashion trends of our times, where experience-curious consumers combine their love for travel with their hunger for contemporary looks; this runway is dedicated to this movement with the understanding of how relevant this becomes to major tourist destinations in South Asia, like Sri Lanka.
